VR data visualization

What you can do for your data.

The problem

The progressive digitization of new areas in personal and professional life generates enormous amounts of data and poses new challenges for decision-makers, service providers and users.

This vast resulting information jungle, which becomes more and more confusing every day, obstructs the view of valuable and previously unrecognized connections.

As a result, the available resource data is not used. Confronted with the enormous dimension of today's data sources and their rapid growth, we are faced with the question of which questions we should actually ask.

What new insights can be gained by structuring and summarizing such data sets?

The solution

Two-dimensional visualizations offer an insight into individual, preselected correlations and allow us to compare data series within a diagram.

The medium Virtual Reality offers new possibilities to analyze large amounts of data faster and more target-oriented. We are able to recognize the relevant subsets and dependencies at ease.

It enables direct interaction when immersing oneself in the abstract world of information and makes consistent use of the high bandwidth of the human perceptual apparatus to provide more data in higher density.

In Virtual Reality, data series can be represented as tangible compounds and information can be coded with respect to the relationship between different objects. The natural perception is supported by the artificially calculated spatiality, the expressivity of the representation is increased and the detection of anomalies is simplified.

FlaVR

FlaVR is the foundation on which the full potential of large data collections can unfold and novel representations will be created.

The built-in support for telepresence and voice communication enables the direct sharing of knowledge with any number of users. The ability to jointly manipulate the data room and share experiences simplifies the delivery of abstract ideas and concepts compared to traditional diagrams.

Applications created with FlaVR can be experienced with all common virtual reality systems. The installation of client software is not necessary because the framework is developed using open and standardized web technologies.

Key Features

The FlaVR framework includes the following central functions

Data Exploration

The first impulse of digitisation often is filling the largest possible data pots with content and then analyzing those by means of detailed views and summaries with prefabricated reports. The relationships and structure of data sets are not further analysed and the potential of the information cannot be fully exploited. FlaVR makes it possible to capture the big picture by

  • simultaneously visualizing more data points and making them accessible to the user,
  • recognizing the global structure of the data and drawing conclusions that remain hidden in detailed views,
  • naturally exploring the resulting information landscape through the use of room-scale virtual reality and
  • comprehensively uncovering patterns and anomalies.

Share insights instantly

Communicating ideas and insights gained from collected data is a big challenge. Sketches and diagrams can help to communicate your mental model when all recipients can be in the same place at the same time. Whiteboards, presentations and video conferencing further limit the vocabulary available. FlaVR reduces barriers and supports users through

  • integrated support of shared telepresence sessions,
  • gesture- and speech-based communication components and
  • customizable avatars

FlaVR implements advanced communication tools such as

  • the ability to enrich and link any visualization with newly created geometries and labels,
  • the creation of walk-in persistent MindRooms and
  • recording and later playback of interactive sessions.

Perception driven analytics

Every human being has the ability to intuitively recognize characteristics, forms and relationships of objects in his environment. Every second we classify new impressions, judge and classify what is already known and create a mental representation of the world around us. Media beyond virtual reality only use a fraction of the existing bandwidth of our perceptual apparatus. FlaVR unlocks the full potential by

  • optimally exploiting the ability to visually grasp interrelationships,
  • using virtual reality to express information not only through colours, outlines and relations of objects, but also through spaces, shapes, volumes, structures and many other properties,
  • creating recognizable representations of abstract data that are easy to navigate and make changes to data obvious over time.

Clientless experience

Applications realized with FlaVR can be experienced by most users without additional effort, because

  • the underlying technology such as WebVR, WebGL and WebRTC are supported by most current browsers,
  • an installation is not necessary because the complete application is delivered from the server to the client,
  • the framework supports responsive virtual reality and can dynamically adapt to the systems of different manufacturers,
  • various input systems such as voice, gesture and controller control are supported.
